Heartland Thanks Volunteers for Variety Show Support

Heartland’s 13th Annual Variety Show, with its 87 volunteer performers and 65 behind-the-scene volunteers, captured the hearts of two audiences at Ames City Auditorium on August 17 & 19 with “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!”  From the bittersweet Charlie Brown comedy skit provided by the Prime Time Readers to hilarious Rocky XXXII by Al Ravenscroft, the 1,000 spectators in the audience certainly got their money’s worth of laughter and entertainment with 28 heart-warming senior acts.

Heartland also appreciates the out-pouring of community support that produced record-breaking proceeds.  The funds will go toward supporting Heartland’s five programming areas:  Adult Day Care, Activities & Resources, Congregate and Home Delivered Meals, Outreach and Transportation.  Heartland wants to thank the major show sponsor, US Bank, as well as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Wal-Mart, Ames Town & Country Kiwanis, Choice Medical, Friedrich/Iowa Realty and Friedrich Construction, The Legends, Moffitts Ford Lincoln Mercury, and Waterford at Ames Assisted Living for supplementing the show proceeds.  Thanks also to 26 local businesses who advertised in the show booklet and to all the volunteers and performers who made the show possible.

Following Sunday’s performance, about 110 of the “crew” came back to Heartland to enjoy a light buffet donated by Cub Foods, and Hawkeye Foods.  Hands for Heartland volunteers had decorated in the theme of the show, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!” complete with calendars, balloons, and napkins depicting every holiday.  HSS executive director John Middents took this chance to especially thank the variety show committee for their amazing talent and long-time dedication to this annual senior show.

It truly takes a village to spotlight our seniors in this grand fashion.  Thank you, Variety Show volunteers, for helping make our annual major fundraiser a successful one.
