Volunteer Spotlight:
Jack Frandsen
Jack Frandsen has been a
prominent resident of Roland/Story City area most
of his life. He was raised on a farm near Roland where he
eventually farmed for 32 years in partnership with his brother.
Jack and his wife Lavonne still love the original homestead.
Before his retirement in 1990, Jack found time
for various volunteer opportunities such as the church board, the
Roland-Nevada Coop elevator
board, and as a 4-H and Cub Scout leader. Then in 1998, Heartland
came knocking on his door, looking for nuts and bolts member of the
Board of Directors who would be willing
to pitch in a help with various facilities projects. Jack has now
served four years,
currently as Secretary of the Board. Everyone soon found that no
job was too big or too small for Jack to tackle and conquer. With
his handyman capabilities, Jack has spent numerous hours fixing the
leaking roof, the heating/cooling system, the boiler, sewage line, etc.,
and has saved Heartland many a costly repair bill.
Jack has used his retirement years to refine
his stained glass expertise and has a created nearly 50 pieces of glass
artwork, along with wood-working and metalworking
projects. His creativity has even lead to the invention of an automatic
wagon hitch.
The retirement years have been full and
productive for Jack, but no matter
how busy he and Lavonne get, they always find time to follow their
seven grandchildren's activities.
Thank you, Jack, for all the support you have
been at Heartland, both behind the scenes, and as a prominent
cheerleader for the cause of seniors in this community.
