Spotlight
Jim Madden,
Heartland’s Irish Tenor
Thankfully, Jim Madden is
always willing
to share his
musical talents. And talents he
has! For the past decade his song and
dance routines have been a crowd favorite as part of Heartland’s
Variety Show. This year he also put on his tap dancing
shoes to liven up the audience at Heartland’s Annual High Tea. He
leads sing-a-longs and entertains each
Thursday at Heartland’s congregate meals, 205 S. Walnut. And when
St. Patrick’s Day rolls around, his
‘Irish green’ attire and rendition of O Danny Boy make the holiday
complete at HSS!
Jim was born in Auburn,
New York. He joined the Air Force out of
high school,
married his sweetheart Connie (from a neighboring town), and spent the
next 20
years in such far-flung places as The Netherlands, Arizona, Iceland,
Maryland,
and Waco, Texas. In 1968 he came to Iowa
State University
as a Sgt.
Major for the ROTC program.
Retiring from the
Air Force in 1971, Jim worked for a
while
at Benson Motors and the Post Office before entering into another full
career
with the DOT for 21 years.
Jim is not one to
let grass grow under his feet. He is very active with the
American Legion
and 40 & 8 and well as in the St. Cecilia Parish where he sings in
the
choir. You will also see him working
events at the Hilton Coliseum and Stephens Auditorium as a ticket taker
and
greeter. This must be what keeps him so
young!
Jim and
Connie have now been married for 52 years. They
have three daughters and one son, (Texas
and Colorado),
so they enjoy traveling as a shared hobby to see their growing families.
If you are hoping to
catch
Jim’s next booking, it could well
be Heartland’s 12th Annual Variety Show, Aug 18 & 20.
The Hooray for Hollywood theme is
right up his alley of pizzazz and showmanship!
Thanks, Jim, for
sharing your talents to benefit
Heartland
in many ways. You are a great role model
in the celebration of aging.
