Jason Rolan,
apprentice
with Nelson Electric,
hangs Heartland’s Main Street banner this August.
Nelson Electric
Have
you ever wondered who hangs those
colorful Main Street banners that inform the community of various
upcoming
events?
As
a community service Paul and Jerry
Nelson of Nelson Electric have been doing this for over 20 years to
help spread
the word about city happenings.
The
banner project is coordinated by the
Ames City Clerk’s Office.
If
Nelson’s help is needed, they find an early
morning hour when the traffic is slow, park the lift truck on Main
Street, and
send up one of their employees to hang the banner of the month.
Jeff
Bryant, supervising project manager,
has been with Nelson Electric for 24 years and remembers this always
being a
service. “It isn’t done for publicity on
our behalf,” he says. “It is just
something that the Nelson family likes to do for the community.”
With
the help of Nelson Electric,
Heartland hangs a large banner over Main Street twice a year; in May
for Older
Americans Month, and in August to advertise for its major fund raiser,
the
Heartland Variety Show. On behalf of several other participating
organizations,
Heartland extends a ‘Hats Off’ to Nelson Electric for this continued
and
generous community service.
