Heartland’s
Tea Committee Volunteers
Heartland held its popular Annual
Afternoon Tea Party, “Once Upon a Tea Time” on Feb. 13.
Over 130 guests enjoyed a joyous afternoon of
conversation, entertainment, special goodies, and delicious Heartland
Blend
Tea. Heartland was honored by the
presence of three very special guests: Former
First Lady of Iowa,
Mrs. Christie Vilsack; local author Ruth
David; and Art Weeks, Director of the Ames
Public Library. Since the theme was a
literary one, these special guests were chosen because of their
interest in
literature. Other theme-related elements
were the Borders donation of six books for door prizes and by the
surprise gift
of Better Homes and Garden Cookbooks to all our tea guests by Meredith
Publishing Company. The entertainment
was scripted by Annette Rowley who used several tea quotes from
literature and
a clever adaptation from The Music Man, “Sip a Little, Talk a Little”. Harpist Mary Richards and Mary Kay’s
carnations pampered the guests even further.
In total, it took over 40
volunteers and nearly 300 volunteer hours to make this Tea fundraiser
the possible. A special thank you goes to
Barbara Kenney of
Nevada
who
oversaw many of the details of the event and to the Gourmet Divisions
of the
ISU Women’s Club for making tea sandwiches and lemon tarts. Heartland appreciates the tremendous support of
volunteers and businesses as well as in-kind donations and ticket
purchases. The tea proceeds go toward
Heartland’s five major
programs: Adult Day Care, Activities & Resources, Congregate &
Home-Delivered Meals, Outreach, and Transportation throughout the
county.
Thank you, everyone, for your
continuing efforts on behalf of the seniors in our community.
